Ozkaya studied all the pictures of the cast figure in Étant donnés, both those taken after Duchamp completed it and during the construction process. He mapped them all together using 3D-modeling software, and manipulated the figure so that it matches up to all the many viewing angles in the historical documentation.
Then Ozkaya turned to Michael Taylor’s research and struck gold. He found an exhaustive paper on the dimensions of the figure! As crazy as it may sound, it specified everything: the distance from the left nipple to the top of the genitalia, between the two nipples, from the top of the shoulder to the neck and so on. Somewhere, Marcel was surely looking down at this with a smile.
Ozkaya put this data into the software. The resulting figure doesn’t necessarily resemble a human being but is a perfect match with what one sees through the peepholes of Étant donnés. Voila: Maria!
